Timothy's 1951 Ford F1 Pickup

Tims nice 1951 Ford F1 Pickup is getting fresh wiring throughout. As with any vehicle we wire, we will be replacing ALL of the wiring in this truck.

Timothy's 1951 Ford F1 pickup before we started to rip out all of the old wiring.

Looking at the interior and exterior, you wouldn't think that this truck needed anything done. Open the hood, or look under the dash and you would notice the brittle, original wiring that needed to be replaced.

Place mouse on the right pic to see the rewired engine compartment!

The truck was already upgraded to 12v and a 1-wire alternator. This will make things easier for us.

The dated wiring will all be replaced and most of it re-routed to look neater and keep it out of harms way. The wiring in the headlight buckets were just waiting to cook!

Place mouse on the left pic to see the rewired coil!

With the headlight buckets removed, you can see more problems lerking behind the buckets. All light sockets will be rebuilt!

Front running / turn signals . . . in need of some blasting, paint and rewire!

Place mouse on the right pic to see the blasted and painted turn signals.

Protecting the new wiring in this project is the 175 amp mega fuse provided in the kit from American Autowire. On the right, you can see the new ignition switch is re-wired.
We removed the heater blower motor so that we could rewire and check to see if it is 6v or 12v. We lucked out . . . the heater blower motor was upgraded to 12v so we won't need to reduce voltage here.
The new headlight switch would not fit behind the dash because the back side of the dash has a large lip that got in the way of the larger headlight switch. We cut the nose of the old switch off and welded it to the new switch to provide us with the spacing required to install the new switch. Place mouse on the pic above to see the switch installed.
Here is a shot of one of the headlights. Fresh wiring all of the way to the terminal ends. The headlight bucket is installed and the new plug installed. Let's see how much brighter the lights will be now!

The new fuse box is installed and wiring is being "roughed in".

Place mouse on the pic to see the completed fuse panel!

Here is a shot through the speedo hole. From this view you can see the headlight switch and 2 relays. We decided to install 1 relay for the fog lights and another for the spot light.
This is a closer look at the headlight switch and relays. This is a shot of the ignition switch installed. Need to get these shots before the gauges are installed because all of this good stuff will be hidden if we wait too long.
Here is a shot of the new headlight switch, and 2 new toggle switches for the fog lights and spotlight. This is a shot of one of the rear tail lights with new connectors crimped and soldered.
The fog lights use the ring terminal to attach to the light bulb. As you can see, the connector is crimped, soldered and a double walled heat shink is applied to completely seal the connection. Here is a shot of an original dash light plug, and one of the ones that were rebuilt. As with any light bulb socket . . . we make them almost like new!
We found a radio sitting in the glove box. We built a box to house the radio and provided a shelf above the radio for stuff! Here are the gauges all wired and ready to go. Notice that the gauges have plugs so they can be easily removed if needed. Also notice the old wires, socket terminal ends and light bulbs that were removed.
We removed the steering wheel to sand and repaint. We also purchased the internal horn parts to make the horn button work so we could remove the horn button that was clamped to the column. The 51 is complete! The fuse box is tucked up under the dash on the driver side for easy access, but out of site!
